In the wake of a new confinement, News Media Europe urges Member States to channel funds to the cultural and news media sector as part of Europe’s Recovery Plan

News Media Europe, together with 110 culture and creative sector (CCS) organisations, call for Member States (full letter) and the European Commission (full letter) to:

• Place culture at the core of each and every Recovery Plan, which aims at a sustainable, inclusive and future-looking revival of European economic life.
• Dedicate at least 2% of national Resilience and Recovery Facility budgets to the cultural sector, including the news media.
• Monitor that funds are properly channelled to CCS organisations that need support, including the news media.

The letters follow the sector’s first call last June, which led to the adoption of the European Parliament’s resolution on the “Cultural Recovery of Europe”.
