News Media Europe denounces shutdown of Turkish media

News Media Europe denounces the recent shutdown of media outlets in Turkey. Amid a state of emergency, state-run news agency Anadolu reported that 45 newspapers, 16 television stations and three news agencies have been closed.

“The situation in Turkey is worrying. Freedom of expression and unrestricted access to information are fundamental to the workings of a democracy and should be upheld at all times” Wout van Wijk, Executive Director of News Media Europe, commented.
